The album reflects the move from his home in NYC to his mother’s home in a quiet village in Italy to take care of her in her older age. It’s been a difficult transition with Italy’s challenging experience with the pandemic, including some of the strictest measures enforced on the public. He recalls by stating “This album was conceived between 2020 and 2021 in Italy, between lockdowns, restrictions, and various pandemic mandates. Its message is of hope and positivity - a reminder that we are all spiritual beings… Free spiritual beings… and that freedom can’t be broken.”\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e“Animamundi” is a reconfirmation that The Spy from Cairo overcomes all obstacles \u0026amp; delivers a diverse progression of his iconic “Arabadub” sound, with the help of collaborators like Andalucian vocalist Carmen Estevez, Mexican vocalist Mambe Rodriguez on the heavy hitting “Criminal,” Egyptian vocalist Adii Small on “Beautiful Baraka,” and former touring band member, the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Fatima Gozlan from Hungary. The music can vary from heavy deep electronic synths and live eastern instrumentation with Zeb\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e playing oud, saz, chiftelli, bass, percussion, and other instruments, all along giving it his signature dub mixing style.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe songs take inspiration from a wide range of musical traditions and cultures, including Turkish (on “Cosmic Pasha,” “Qanun in Dub” – using the qanun, an instrument popular across the Middle East, with a sound between the European harp and a dulcimer – and “Black Sea,” which utilises a typical Dabke melody), Egyptian (“Mizmirized,” sampling riffs from a mizmar), Indian (“Seeds of Culture), and Sufi (“Divination,” a devotional composition), fusing these reference points with healthy doses of cumbia, funk, reggae, psychedelic, and dub. Thematically, “Animamundi” deals with some of the struggles Zeb – and all of us – have faced the last two years, through the lens of his personal experiences. Yet, the tone of the record manages to remain positive, like an uplifting dance through the world’s sounds; after all, “Animamundi” means “soul of the world” in Greek. On his 3rd studio album under the name The Spy from Cairo, he switches his signature instrument, the classical Arabic Oud, to an electronic Oud which also reflects a transition in his sound throughout the album to a more cosmic \u0026amp; electronic dance- floor experience. The title, \"Nothing New Under the Sun\" reflects his constant call for people to be more united in this World rather than divided. As he says in the liner notes; \"As time goes by, people never seem to learn from History, which we see repeating over \u0026amp; over again (and those in power seem to always stir the same old soup). I sincerely hope we wake up and see what really matters in this life and be together as one.... because all is ONE UNDER THE SUN.\" \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eWritten, produced, performed \u0026amp; mixed himself, the album also features some of his Brooklyn Gypsies band-mates Fatima Gozlar, Takuya Nakamura \u0026amp; Ilker Ciraci as well as the talents of Maalem (master gnawa musician) Ben Hassan Jaafer of the group Innov Gnawa on vocals. The album starts with a slow Oud intro backed by a heavy 808 kick to satisfy the likes of his growing\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eWorldwide tribal female belly dance community. He then gives us some classic eastern dub with the tunes \"Damascus Market Dub\" \u0026amp; \"Universal.\" The transition to the club dance-floor is displayed next with the funky cosmic disco based \"Sahir\" which has been a real hit from Ozora Festival in Hungary to the Symbiosis festival on the West coast USA. \"Dub Shaabi\" is a rhythm bending North African shaabi meets dub style production featuring Hassan Ben Jaafer on vocals saying \"the Gnawa is coming \u0026amp; they bring good, positive, (sweet) things.\"Prophecy in Motion\" \u0026amp; \"When Giants Ruled the Earth\" both come in with the disco dub beats that translate well with his string instrument melodies \u0026amp; solos. Next, you get a real cosmic electronic trip with \"Ya Amar\" \u0026amp; \"Sirens of the Nile\" showing his diverse Organic Grooves roots.
